About Northern Character International Film & TV Festival

Northern Character Film&TV Festival in Murmansk has existed since 2008.

It was born thanks to some friends and TV- journalists from four countries, who realized their dream to create a ground for meetings and discussions, being eager to trace in which direction contemporary European audiovisual art is developing.

Gradually, it was the cultural aspect that became the main locomotive of the organizers’ and participants’ interest, and the festival became a meeting place not only for journalists, but also for filmmakers, as well as for the audience, i.e people living in Murmansk and visitors to the city, too.

Susanna Alperina (Moscow, Russia)
She was born in Odessa. Graduated musical school, class of violin. She is a graduate of theatre class at school № 37 (1983). After school, she tried to enter the theatre institute, but the competition was too high and she got into the language faculty of Odessa national university of I.I.Mechnikov. Having studied there for three years she transferred to the journalism faculty of Moscow state university of M.V. Lomonosov and moved to Moscow.
She has worked at Ivzestya for several years, and then moved on to Rossiyskaya gazeta. Since 2004, she worked in Week magazine of Rossiyskaya gazeta. She writes about cinema, television, music and theatre (she prefers the genre of interview). She is the head of a unit and cooperates with a number of authors. She is also teaching the leading Russian universities. She is a writer, her novels were published in the collections of novels The grass was greener of writers about their childhood, Eksmo 2016, Contemporary Russian proze, Erevan, Orakul, 2017, Masha minus Vasya, Eksmo 2018 and others. She is the producer of INTO_nation of big Odessa documentary (directed by Aleksander Brunkovsky). Since 2019, she became the program director of Screening festival Chitka.

Elena Vasyukova (Moscow, Russia)
TV-journalist, former head of youth tv-programs unit at GTRK Murman. She is honorable cultural worker of Russia (2000). She was born in Murmansk. She graduated MSPI, Leningrad institute of theatre, music and cinematography. Since 1974 she has worked for Murmansk regional TV and radio (now GTRK Murman), first as an assistant, then as assistant director, director, head of youth tv-programs unit. She was the director of tv-programs 36,6, Vremechko and films A Romantic Trip to the North Pole and other films.
Now she is living and working in Moscow. Her flexography includes documentaries for Culure, RTR and TVC channels.

Jury President - Galina Adamovich (Belorussia)
Galina Adamovich was born in Minsk. In 1994, she graduated from the Arts Academy of Belorussia as a documentary film director. The same year she started working at the national filmstudio Belarusfilm.
She is a member of the Filmmakers Union of Belarus. Many times she was a participant, a winner and a jury member of international filmfestivals. In 2007 her film Zavedenka was mentioned as the best national film of Belarus. In 2012 she was given a Special award by the President of the Republic of Belarus «For spiritual renaissance» for the culture and art workers. In 2014 she was named the Person from Minsk of the year. In 2019 she received the award from the Trade union of Belarus. In 2022 she started Adam film production studio in Minsk.

Armine Avdalian (Armenia)
Born 1970 in Erevan. In 1994 she graduated from Erevan Pedagogical University of H. Abobvyan, the faculty of pedagogics and psychology. In 2003 she graduated courses of producing at the TV and Radio Academy of Armenia. She has been teaching for 32 years, and over 10 years is the rector of the TV and Radio Academy of Armenia. She is an honourable academic of the Eurasian Academy of TV and radio. For over 8 years she has been a participant of various film festivals, also a jury member.

Oleg Kapanets (Moscow, Russia) – a Russian film producer, scriptwriter and film actor. He stated professional filmmaking in the beginning of 90’s, worked in Hollywood, his special interest is filming biographies of famous people. His films Gagarin. The first in space and Lev Jashin. The goalkeeper of my dreams were a great success with the audience and are loved by the people.
He is a member of Russian producers’ guild since 1997. A member of the Film makers union since 2000.
Films by Oleg Kapanets got multiple award at various Russian and international film festivals.

Elena Sobashnikova (Murmansk, Russia)
She started working in Kirovsk at the local history museum and worked there for 12 years, 5 of them as the museums director. From 2012 to 2014 she was vice-head of the Department of culture of Kirovsk. In January 2015 she was appointed to the position of Murmansk regional local history museum director. During her period of work the museum annually presents various exhibitions both from the museum’s collection and from other leading museums of Russia. The museum regularly takes part in grant programs. There are several research expeditions at the museum: archeological, ornithological, ethnographic, they research and field work.

Gunilla Bresky (Sweden), a film director from Luleå (Norrbotten), she has a huge experience in making documentaries. Many of her films were shot in Russia and tell about the participants of the Great patriotic war. Her films were awarded the grand prix of Northern Character film festival three times.

Srdjan Ilic (Serbia)
Producer, director, chairman of Union of cinematographers and television workers of Voevodino autonomous region, Serbia.

Nikita Chisnikov (Moscow, Russia)
Television and internet producer and director with over 20 years of experience of project production for federal channels such as STS, First channel, TNT, Domashny, CHE!, Friday!, TV Center, RT, etc.
He has worked in different genres: tv-shows, reality shows, documentaries, short videos, short films, company videos.
Producer of tv-shows such as “the Train attendant” (Domashny), “Miracle worker”(Domashny), “Master-Chef” (STS), “Comedy battle. Season 1”, and many other projects.
He has education in the field of economics (MESI), directing (VGIK), and Executive MBA program (Corvinus University, Hungary).
He has awards from Russian and foreign film festivals. He is also the author of research work “Creative groups management”.

Sergey Yudkov (Murmansk, Russia)
Member Russian Journalists Union (2002), a member of the Russian Geographic Society (2020). He was born in 1970 in Saratov region and has been living in Murmansk since 1977. He graduated Faculty of history of Murmansk state pedagogical institute in 1992, masters program in mediaritorics at MASU in 2021. In 1993-1995 he worked as editor at the department of social problems of Kolskoe slovo newspaper, from 1995 to 2019 he was a journalist and later became editor of information desk of TV-21 company. He informed about the most important events happening in the Murmansk region. At present he works at Murmansky vestnik newspaper.
He is the creator of numerous tv-projects such as the Mysterious island of Kildin, Seven wonders on the edge of the world, History in metal, etc.

About us

The organizer of the International Film&TV Festival is the independent non-commercial organization Production Center NORTHERN CHARACTER.

The founders are Svetlana Soldatova and Yuri Erofeev, they have been organizing the International Film Festival since 2008. This is not the only project of the Production center. It organizers holidays, exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events. Here are some of them:

2014. Interactive film festival We bring time back. In honor of the 70th anniversary of the Nazi troops defeat in the Arctic, military reenactors, actors, museum staff, volunteers recreated the atmosphere of the war years. Five thematic spots were presented in the Murmansk Regional Museum of Local History: On the Eve, June 22, 1941, Front-Line Days, Victory Will Be Ours, Military Cinematography. The visitors of the spots were able to touch upon the material evidence of the military era, think about such important concepts as life, death and a feat in the name of the life of future generations.
